All Watched Over

13 June 2011

Adam Curtis made a few films recently titled ‘All Watched Over By Machines Of Loving Grace’. Always interesting and beautifully produced, here’s a few short films he made for Charlie Brooker’s Newswipe. You can catch All Watched Over… on iPlayer at the moment. It’s three hours of archive footage and great soundtrack choices at it’s simplest angle.

iOS 5 is good, but also bad

I think what Apple did was to go through the App Store and the Cydia App Store and pluck out the most popular apps from each category and integrate them into the core functionality of the OS. ie. Instapaper, MobileNotifier, the whole ‘Weather’ category, the whole over-priced ‘Productivity’ category filled with to-do apps, WiFi Sync, WhatsApp, Camera+, TextExpander… and more.

I don’t think this is a bad thing for the user at all, but for 10 or so developers it’s devastating.

Triangle Is Three Years Old

8 June 2011

Three years ago I started Triangle Triangle, before triangles became so cool. In that time it’s become a popular website, even though it started off (and still is really) just a collection of my favourite images; clearly it’s viewers share the same taste.

More recently, Sam Williams has come on board. A close friend and trusted ally, we share fairly different tastes, I don’t like black and white and I don’t like portraits, Sam likes both of these, which gives Triangle rounded collection. Sam and I both work as part of Second Cousins, designing, photographing and directing short films/music videos.

I’d also like to thank all of the great photographers who post over at Triangle’s sister site, Many, literally a sister to Triangle as the photographers who post there are often themselves featured on Triangle - it’s my favourite photographers and their favourite photographs, my perfect website. Many is about a year and a half old now, and shares about the same number of posts as Triangle, ~900.

And special thanks to Felicia Honkasalo and Ernest Protasiewicz who are always sending me new work to look at (most of which gets posted), as well as probably being the most frequent photographers featured on Triangle itself.

Thanks for looking.
